Cuba's William Soler Pediatric Cardiocenter recognized by President Díaz-Canel
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez visited the William Soler Pediatric Cardiocenter in Havana to recognize the institution's contributions to pediatric cardiovascular health. The center, which was inaugurated by Fidel Castro in 1986, is considered a primary reference point for treating congenital heart defects and other cardiovascular disorders in children and adolescents.
Director Eugenio Selma Husein Sosa reported that the facility provides specialized care from the prenatal stage through adulthood. Despite economic challenges and the impact of the blockade, the center has increased its surgical output, performing 113 operations so far this year—a higher figure than the previous year. The institution maintains a survival rate of over 93 percent following these procedures.
Díaz-Canel praised the medical staff for their ability to reinvent themselves and provide specialized care despite resource shortages and external limitations.
