Cucorba honored for 50 years of Mallorcan musical and cultural contribution

The Obra Cultural Balear (OCB) organized a tribute concert titled ‘Gràcies, Cucorba!’ at Plaça Mallorca in Inca to celebrate the fifty-year career of the musical group Cucorba. The event honored the group’s contributions to music, theater, children’s entertainment, and the promotion of the local language and popular culture in Mallorca.

During the performance, current members Gemma Palà, Gabriel Gamundí, and Francesc Aguiló were accompanied by musicians Joel Ródenas, Sergi Sellés, Josep Font, and Faust Morell. A significant moment occurred when OCB President Antoni Llabrés presented the group with custom-made ‘siurells’ (traditional whistles) featuring the members' likenesses, symbolizing the group’s deep connection to Mallorcan heritage.

Llabrés noted that Cucorba has been part of the collective memory for multiple generations, serving as a tool for cultural transmission through schools, festivals, and homes.
