Cudi olive tree in Şanlıurfa produces fruit after 13 centuries

A 1,332-year-old olive tree named ‘Cudi’ continues to produce fruit in the Altınbaşak neighborhood of the Eyyübiye district in Şanlıurfa, Turkey. Located on a prominent hill, the tree has survived for thirteen centuries without irrigation.

Registered by the Şanlıurfa Regional Commission for the Protection of Natural Assets in 2007, the tree produces an average of 50 kilograms of olives annually. İsa İzgi, the Eyyübiye District Director of Agriculture and Forestry, noted that the tree serves as a symbol of fertility for the region’s agricultural products.

Local residents consider the tree a cultural symbol and a point of pride, often gathering its fruit for special occasions and guests.
