Cudillero and Playa del Silencio highlight Asturias coast

The coastal region of Asturias, Spain, features notable landmarks such as the fishing village of Cudillero and the Playa del Silencio.

Cudillero is characterized by its vertical architecture, where colorful houses are built into cliffs surrounding the Plaza de la Marina. This central plaza acts as a natural amphitheater facing the sea. Key attractions include various viewpoints, such as Mirador del Pico, Mirador de la Garita, and Mirador de la Estrecha, which offer panoramic views of the Cantabrian Sea.

Located within the Cudillero municipality, Playa del Silencio (also known as Gavieiro) is a protected natural site. Unlike typical sandy beaches, it is composed of smooth pebbles and rocks. The area is enclosed by high cliffs that shield the shore from heavy waves, resulting in calmer waters. The beach is part of the Costa Occidental Protected Landscape and holds designations as a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) and a Site of Community Importance (LIC).
