Cuenca en Marcha proposes universal accessibility plan for municipal buildings

The municipal group Cuenca en Marcha – Unidas por Cuenca has proposed a motion to ensure progressive universal accessibility across all municipal buildings, facilities, and equipment under city management.

The initiative requests that the City Council develop a Municipal Accessibility Plan for Municipal Buildings and Facilities within a maximum of six months. This plan would identify existing barriers, establish priorities, and create a timeline for their removal. Additionally, the proposal calls for necessary funds to be included annually in the municipal budget and for regular reports to be provided to the Plenary and the public regarding compliance.

Spokesperson Mª Ángeles García emphasized that accessibility should not depend on individuals encountering barriers and requesting solutions, but rather on proactive planning. The group highlighted that even the City Hall itself currently lacks universal access, which can hinder political participation and the ability of citizens to attend municipal meetings or activities.
