Spain: Political disputes over fire services and flood prevention
Political tensions are rising in various Spanish regions over public service management and infrastructure. In Cuenca, the People's Group (PP) accused the provincial government of leaving over thirty municipalities without fire prevention services during local festivals. The Socialist Group (PSOE) countered that only 13 services were canceled due to various logistical reasons and maintained that no area was left unprotected.
In the Valencian Community, the PP criticized the Spanish Government for the slow execution of flood protection works in Vega Baja. They claim only 5% of the €330 million allocated for flood prevention has been implemented nearly seven years after the 2019 DANA disaster. Meanwhile, the agricultural organization AVA-ASAJA has called for the government to reserve a portion of the €120.55 million from the EU Solidarity Fund for Valencian farmers to address the lingering effects of the 2024 DANA and extreme heat in 2025.
