Cuenca political groups debate Old Town lifts and parking access

Political tensions are rising in Cuenca regarding urban infrastructure and resident rights. The People's Party (PP) has expressed deep concern over the lack of guarantees for the opening of the lifts serving the Old Town (Casco Antiguo). With fewer than 100 days remaining in the year, the PP warns that there is no certainty regarding the project's completion, which could potentially jeopardize linked European funding.

Additionally, Bea Jiménez, representing the PP, has proposed a motion to include residents of the Castillo area in the Old Town's residential parking zone. The initiative seeks to ensure that neighbors in this area, who face significant circulation restrictions, have equitable access to parking services, particularly to assist the elderly and those with reduced mobility.

Critics of the current administration point to a history of unfulfilled promises regarding the lifts, noting that previous deadlines set by regional leaders have not been met due to various delays, including archaeological difficulties.
