Cuenca restores ornamental lighting for San Mateo festivals

The Cuenca City Council has announced the return of ornamental lighting for the San Mateo festivals. This decorative initiative, which includes Alfonso VIII Street and the City Hall facade, was reinstated following requests from local residents. The lighting will feature motifs specific to San Mateo and Cuenca.

To enhance safety during the celebrations, the city has installed screens, spotlights, and a generator near the City Hall and buildings facing the Cathedral. These measures are intended to illuminate the Plaza Mayor in the event of a power outage to facilitate evacuations.

The festival program includes a parade of social clubs (peñas), a children's event (San Mateo Infantil), and a bull run (suelta de vaquillas). The official poster for the event was created by artist Lorenzo Higueras. Mayor Darío Dolz noted that the festivities will be special due to the calendar alignment, which includes a local holiday on Monday.
