Cuenca's El Sargal gym faces safety crisis as council demands structural inspection

The Popular Municipal Group in Cuenca has called for an immediate technical inspection of the El Sargal sports centre after users reported serious structural problems in the gym’s changing rooms. Councilor Julián Niño, who visited the site, described cracks, ground subsidence, leaks and shored‑up elements that threaten user safety. He criticised the municipal government led by Mayor Darío Dolz for focusing on new equipment while ignoring the deteriorating building fabric.

Niño urged the council to publish the structural reports without delay and to carry out the necessary repairs as a priority, warning that continued inaction could lead to a serious accident.
