Cuernavaca allocates 400 million pesos to upgrade water infrastructure

The Cuernavaca municipal government in Morelos announced a budget of over 400 million pesos to modernize the city's water‑supply and sewage system. Mayor José Luis Urióstegui Salgado said the investment will address long‑standing deficiencies, with half of the network previously damaged and many wells in need of rehabilitation. The funds will be used to construct new storage tanks, rehabilitate existing ones, replace more than 40 km of pipe and renew over 11 km of sanitary drainage, as well as refurbish 26 strategic wells. The upgrades aim to improve water pressure, reduce leaks, and secure supply for the growing demand during the summer vacation season.

The project is part of a broader public‑works plan that has already allocated 98 million pesos to infrastructure between 2022 and 2026, with over 40 % of that amount directed to hydraulic works. The new facilities include four 150‑cubic‑metre tanks, one 300‑cubic‑metre tank, and ongoing construction of additional storage units.
