Cuernavaca faces religious censorship claims and teacher protests
In Cuernavaca, Morelos, several social and institutional conflicts have emerged. The Diocese of Cuernavaca has accused authorities of censorship attempts following threats directed at Bishop Ramón Castro Castro. The Diocese is calling for an official investigation into these threats, which reportedly included social media posts offering money to harm the bishop after his criticisms of the government.
Simultaneously, the Institute of Basic Education of the State of Morelos (IEBEM) has been occupied by two groups of teachers. One group is protesting the appointment of Carlos Franco Ruiz as head of the institute, while another group is demanding the removal of Olivia Corrales Arriaga, head of the USICAMM in Morelos, citing irregularities in teacher promotion processes. These protests have paralyzed administrative services at the institution.
Additionally, journalists have reported facing aggression, intimidation, and property damage from a group known as the ‘Bloque Negro’ during a march on October 2. Reporters and photographers claim they were forced to delete video footage and faced physical threats while attempting to document the event.
