Cugnaux mayors request urgent gendarmerie reinforcements

Mayors of Cugnaux, Frouzins, and Villeneuve-Tolosane have formally requested the French government to increase the number of gendarmes in the Cugnaux brigade. In a letter addressed to Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, the mayors argued that current staffing levels are insufficient to meet the needs of a territory experiencing significant demographic shifts.

According to the mayors, the Cugnaux brigade has seen its personnel decrease from 40 to 39 gendarmes since 2013, despite a population increase of approximately 12% between 2016 and 2022. The brigade serves an area exceeding 40,000 inhabitants and manages up to fifteen new complaints daily. The officials stated that the current situation hinders the ability to perform essential missions, including field presence, prevention, victim support, and investigations.
