Cuiabá allocates R$17 million to subsidize home‑buyer down‑payments

The municipality of Cuiabá will expand access to home ownership for low‑income families through a new program called Minha Entrada. The initiative, funded by a R$17 million federal amendment secured by Senator Wellington Fagundes, will provide subsidies to help families cover the down‑payment on housing loans. The programme is part of the broader Casa Cuiabana housing plan and is awaiting legal approval before being sent to the city council. Municipal Housing Secretary Michelle Dreher said, “We received a federal amendment … of approximately R$18 million. This benefit will be directed to people who want to buy their first home but lack the entry amount.”

Separately, the Public Defender’s Office of Mato Grosso obtained a court order guaranteeing emergency housing for a family from Tangará da Serra whose home was flooded after a failed municipal works project. Judge Diego Hartmann ordered the city to provide alternative accommodation or pay a social rent of at least R$700 per month, imposing fines and the possibility of blocking municipal funds for non‑compliance. The decision also requires a technical report on the dwelling’s habitability within five days.
