Cuiabá authorities inspect Historic Center for structural risks
The Cuiabá City Hall and the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN) conducted a technical inspection of the capital's Historic Center to assess the conservation status of old mansions and other historic buildings. The operation involved the Municipal Civil Defense Secretariat and the Municipal Secretariat of Planning and Urban Development to identify structural risks and prevent collapses.
Technical surveys previously identified several properties showing signs of degradation, lack of maintenance, and a need for structural bracing. Officials noted that many buildings have been abandoned, leaving them vulnerable to deterioration from sun and rain. The inspection aims to gather data to define emergency conservation measures and general renovations to preserve the city's architectural heritage, particularly during the rainy season.
