Cuiabá authorities inspect workshops to clear sidewalks
The Cuiabá City Hall conducted the ‘Ação Mobilidade em Ordem’ initiative on Thursday to inspect mechanical workshops, junkyards, and commercial establishments in the Pedra 90 and Jardim Industriário neighborhoods. Coordinated by the municipal secretariats of Public Order (Sorp) and Urban Mobility (Semob), the operation aims to combat the irregular occupation of sidewalks and public roads by vehicles and scrap metal.
During the inspection, officials identified approximately 25 vehicles illegally occupying public spaces, including abandoned cars and vehicles in non-circulating condition. Authorities noted that such obstructions hinder pedestrian movement and pose public health risks, as dismantled vehicles can collect water and provide shelter for venomous animals.
One business owner was formally notified to remove vehicles and clear the public space within 10 days. This integrated enforcement action, which began in September, seeks to ensure accessibility and pedestrian safety.
