Cuiabá medical student arrested after fatal pedestrian accident

A 20-year-old medical student, Eduardo Henrique de Carvalho, was arrested in Cuiabá after a fatal accident on Avenida Beira Rio. Security footage captured the moment the vehicle struck a motorcyclist before hitting an 85-year-old man, Valdemir Ernesto dos Santos, who was crossing the street with a cane.

The victim was transported by the Emergency Mobile Care Service (Samu) but died on the way to the hospital. Following the collision, police conducted breathalyzer tests on the driver, which returned a result of 0.51 mg/L of alcohol per liter of air exhaled. This level exceeds the legal limit of 0.34 mg/L established by the Brazilian Traffic Code. The driver was taken into custody and the Civil Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
