Cuiabá Civil Defense issues heatstroke and dehydration alerts for children

The Cuiabá Municipal Civil Defense has issued an alert regarding the risks of dehydration and heatstroke for infants and children due to high temperatures and dry weather in the capital. Colonel Alessandro Borges, the Secretary of Civil Defense, emphasized that prevention must be doubled for younger children.

Key recommendations for caregivers include ensuring constant hydration, wearing light-colored clothing, and avoiding sun exposure between 10:00 and 16:00. Authorities warned against leaving children alone in vehicles and cautioned against covering baby strollers with blankets or fabrics, as this can trap heat and increase internal temperatures.

In the event of suspected heatstroke—indicated by symptoms such as drowsiness, weakness, or difficulty walking and speaking—caregivers are advised to move the child to a cool area, remove excess clothing, and seek immediate medical attention.
