Cuiabá authorities remove irregular wiring on Avenida Barão de Melgaço
Authorities in Cuiabá conducted ‘Operation Telefone Sem Fio’ to remove approximately 200 meters of irregular wiring from critical utility poles on Avenida Barão de Melgaço. The operation was launched following reports of safety hazards, including loose wires threatening pedestrians and the risk of fires caused by disorganized cabling.
The initiative is part of the Municipal Aerial Wiring Management Program, coordinated by the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Sorp) in partnership with the Secretariats of Urban Mobility and Public Security, as well as Procon Municipal. To date, joint actions in Cuiabá have removed 20 tons of irregular, clandestine, or obsolete cables.
The removal was carried out by Energisa Mato Grosso, the state's utility concessionaire, alongside various telephony operators and internet providers. Local merchants reported that previous wiring issues had caused transformer fires and obstructed access to businesses.
