Cuiabá begins storm drain restoration in Despraiado

The Cuiabá City Hall has begun the restoration of storm drains located on Rua Osvaldo da Silva Corrêa in the Despraiado neighborhood. The project involves replacing covers and masonry sections following the completion of cleaning operations on the drainage network, which spans approximately 120 meters of piping.

Cleaning efforts, conducted by the Municipal Secretariat of Infrastructure and Works, revealed significant blockages. Natal Carvalho, the hydrojet truck coordinator, reported that roughly 70% of the material removed was trash. Officials noted that improper waste disposal, such as leaving trash bags directly on drain covers, contributes to these obstructions.

This intervention is part of a preventive strategy implemented by the city since January 2025 to maintain urban drainage and mitigate flooding risks during heavy rains. According to municipal data, 1,892 storm drains were cleaned in 2025, with the cumulative total of serviced structures reaching approximately 2,600 by January 2026.
