Cuiabá consumer protection agency seizes nearly 1,000 expired products

The Municipal Procon of Cuiabá has seized approximately 926 expired products during its ‘Operation Checklist,’ an inspection targeting four shopping malls in the capital. The operation, which began in late July 2026, has inspected 222 stores so far, with seizures occurring in 24 establishments across the food, cosmetics, and pet product sectors.

Of the items seized, the current tally includes 535 food items, 268 cosmetics, and 17 pet products. Officials expect the total number of seized items to exceed 1,000 by the time the operation concludes this Friday.

Beyond seizing expired goods, the initiative serves an educational purpose to help merchants comply with the Consumer Defense Code. Inspectors are also verifying price displays, payment methods, exchange policies, and the accessibility of essential consumer information to ensure transparency and safety.
