Cuiabá Councilor Rafael Ranalli challenges voting system and labor rights
Cuiabá City Councilor Rafael Ranalli (PL) has sparked controversy by defending the right of business owners to dismiss employees based on their political affiliations. Ranalli suggested that employers should have the freedom to fire workers who voted for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, stating that those who disagree should ‘live on Bolsa Família.’ He further argued that consumers should also have the freedom to choose where to spend their money based on political alignment.
In a separate matter, Ranalli expressed skepticism regarding the reliability of electronic voting machines. During an interview at the Municipal Chamber, he called for independent audits of the voting process. He cited his own experience in the 2020 municipal elections, where he claimed the vote count fluctuated unexpectedly, resulting in him becoming the first alternate candidate by a margin of 200 votes. Ranalli characterized the extension of voting hours during recent elections as suspicious and maintained that doubts about the system should be addressed regardless of which political side wins.
