Cuiabá councilwoman demands specialized care for women victims of violence

Councilwoman Maysa Leão has called for urgent action regarding the decline in specialized services for women victims of violence at the Hospital Municipal de Cuiabá (HMC). The demand follows an incident where a woman seeking help for injuries found the specialized reception room closed.

Leão noted that the HMC's specialized room had previously maintained consistent staffing, even during the pandemic. She also criticized the closure of four 'Salas Lilás' (Lilac Rooms) in Urgent Care Units (UPAs) at the start of the current municipal administration. According to the councilwoman, these closed units previously served approximately 300 women, and the HMC was expected to absorb that demand, bringing the total to roughly 700 patients.

Leão emphasized that the reduction in specialized spaces is a setback for Mato Grosso, a state facing high rates of femicide and sexual violence, and urged the government to ensure dignified and secure care for vulnerable women.
