Cuiabá faces FIFA transfer ban over debt to coach Petit

Cuiabá has been issued a transfer ban by FIFA due to an outstanding debt of approximately R$ 4 million owed to Portuguese coach Petit, who managed the club in 2024. The sanction prevents the club from registering new players until the debt is settled and the ban is lifted.

Cuiabá president Cristiano Dresch stated that the club has 60 days to resolve the matter. He attributed the current financial crisis to unpaid debts from other Brazilian clubs, specifically naming Corinthians, Santos, Grêmio, and Atlético-MG. Dresch claimed that Cuiabá is owed approximately R$ 42 million by these entities, which would be more than ten times the amount required to clear the current debt.

Petit served as the team's coach from May to December 2024 before resigning for personal reasons. The club's management is currently seeking ways to utilize expected incoming funds from other teams to regularize the payment to the former coach.
