Brazil health initiatives expand medical access and infrastructure

Various Brazilian municipalities and state governments are implementing health initiatives to expand medical access and improve infrastructure.

In São Paulo, the state government’s ‘Mulheres de Peito’ program is deploying mobile mammography units to several cities, including Peruíbe and Santo André, to provide free cancer screening. The program reported a 76% increase in exams in 2025 compared to 2024.

In Cuiabá, health authorities are conducting technical inspections of eight municipal health units to monitor ongoing construction and renovations, including the new USF Pedra 90 III and IV. Additionally, the city has expanded access to thalidomide for leprosy treatment at the Centro de Especialidades Médicas.

Other regional efforts include a large-scale health drive in Bragança Paulista aiming to complete over 80,000 procedures by late 2026, and the deployment of mobile units in Natal to increase the availability of CT scans and ultrasounds. In Porto Velho, health officials are conducting leprosy training for professionals in the Rio Pardo district to strengthen early diagnosis.

In Penedo, training programs for Family Health Post professionals are underway to strengthen protection networks for women, while Cuiabá’s education department has also secured the first-ever payment of vacation supplements for thousands of municipal teachers.
