Cuiabá Mayor Abilio Brunini ousts councilors from executive WhatsApp group and seeks 15‑day leave for spouse's campaign
Mayor Abilio Brunini (PL) of Cuiabá removed councilors Dilemário Alencar (União) and Baixinha Giraldelli (Solidariedade) from the executive‑legislative WhatsApp communication channel after they failed to support the 2027 Budget Guidelines Law (LDO) project. The LDO required a quorum of 14 votes but received only 12, leading to its rejection. Brunini renamed the group from “Group of 14” to “Group of 12” and previously expelled five other councilors, citing lack of cooperation.
In a separate statement, Brunini announced plans to take a 15‑day leave in September to accompany his wife, Samantha Iris, in her campaign for a state deputy seat. During his absence, vice‑mayor Vânia Rosa will assume mayoral duties. Brunini said the short leave would not disrupt municipal operations and could help secure additional state resources for Cuiabá if his wife were elected.
