Cuiabá motorcycle accidents cause 69% of traffic deaths in 2024

Recent data from the Vida no Trânsito Program (PVT) epidemiological bulletin issued by the Cuiabá Municipal Health Secretariat highlights a significant rise in high-energy trauma caused by motorcycle accidents in the city.

Of the 104 traffic deaths recorded in Cuiabá in 2024, 69% involved motorcyclists. The victims are predominantly economically active individuals between the ages of 20 and 59. Medical professionals report that these accidents frequently result in complex injuries, including compound fractures of the tibia, femur, and pelvis, as well as severe joint injuries and amputations.

Key contributing factors identified include speeding (30.8% of deaths), driving without a license (30% of riders), and the combination of alcohol and driving. Approximately two-thirds of the fatal victims died at the scene of the accident.
