Cuiabá nightclub owner and manager arrested for detaining women
The owner and manager of a nightclub in Cuiabá, Brazil, were arrested after two 19-year-old women, working as sex workers, were prevented from leaving the establishment. The victims had purchased bus tickets to return to Manaus but missed their transportation after being detained.
According to police reports, the manager allegedly used physical force and seized the women's luggage, demanding a fine of R$ 500 from each person to allow them to leave. He further threatened additional fines if they exceeded a certain time limit. One victim sustained a hand injury when the manager reportedly snatched her suitcase away during a confrontation after she called emergency services.
The victims stated they had already settled any debts with the 31-year-old owner, but claimed she frequently applied various fines to keep them in a state of constant debt. The manager told police he was acting under the owner's orders. The incident has been recorded as involving crimes such as kidnapping, false imprisonment, pimping, and injury.
