Cuiabá police arrest tax‑fraud suspect linked to drug trafficking

On July 1, the Civil Police in Cuiabá captured a 31‑year‑old woman who had been evading a 2019 arrest warrant for drug‑trafficking offenses. The investigation, conducted by the Specialized Tax Crime Division (Defaz), linked her to alleged tax‑evading activities involving a company used as a “front” to conceal the true owners. Authorities estimate the tax fraud caused a loss of roughly R$ 900 thousand to public coffers. After locating her in the Novo Milênio neighbourhood, police transferred her to the Defaz unit for custody and scheduled a custody hearing.

The operation underscores ongoing efforts by Mato Grosso’s law‑enforcement agencies to combat complex financial and drug‑related crimes.
