Cuiabá power substation invasion leads to fatal confrontation
A confrontation between security personnel and three armed individuals occurred on Wednesday night at a power substation construction site in the Sucuri district of Cuiabá. One of the intruders, identified as 26-year-old Rafael Martins da Silva, died at the scene after being shot.
The 50-year-old security guard reported being surprised by the three armed men while in the facility's cafeteria. During the exchange of gunfire, the guard used a .38 caliber revolver to defend himself. While the guard was struck by two shots to the abdomen, his bulletproof vest intercepted the projectiles, resulting in only bruising. He was transported to the Hospital Municipal de Cuiabá for medical evaluation.
Police recovered a .40 caliber Taurus pistol with partially filed-off serial numbers near the deceased intruder. The other two suspects fled the scene on foot and remain at large. Local police units, including the Military Police and specialized tactical teams, conducted searches in the area. The site has been isolated for investigation by the Homicide and Person Protection Specialized Police Station and forensic technicians.
