Cuiabá releases guide for tree pruning and removal requests

The City Hall of Cuiabá, through the Municipal Secretariat of Environment and Urban Development (SMADES), has released a guide to instruct residents on the procedures for requesting tree pruning or removal.

According to the guidelines based on Municipal Decree No. 12.079/2026, residents must first file a request with the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order. SMADES then conducts a technical evaluation to issue environmental authorization. Once approved, the Cuiabá Urban Maintenance and Services Company (Limpurb) carries out the service.

The guide emphasizes that unauthorized interventions, such as drastic pruning or mutilation, are infractions. It also advises against hiring private services for trees in public areas without municipal permission. In emergencies involving imminent risk to people or infrastructure, Limpurb is authorized to act immediately, provided a technical report is sent to SMADES within 24 hours. Regarding traffic accidents involving public trees, drivers remain civilly liable for environmental damage, though the new rules aim to prevent duplicate administrative penalties.
