Cuiabá reports 23 meningitis cases and reinforces vaccination efforts

Health authorities in Cuiabá have confirmed 23 cases of meningitis, maintaining a rate of 3.32 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This figure remains within the expected reference range of 2 to 4 cases per 100,000, and officials state the situation does not indicate an outbreak.

To prevent transmission, the Municipal Health Secretariat is reinforcing vaccination efforts through a national multi-vaccination campaign. Available vaccines via the Unified Health System (SUS) include meningococcal C for infants and meningococcal ACWY as a booster for 12-month-olds and adolescents aged 11 to 14. The meningococcal B vaccine is only available through private networks.

Medical professionals emphasize recognizing early symptoms, which include high fever, intense headache, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, and behavioral changes in children. Because meningitis can progress rapidly and lead to serious complications or long-term neurological sequelae, immediate medical attention is advised upon the appearance of these signs.
