Cuiabá reports scorpion accidents and expands video surgery access
In Cuiabá, the Municipal Health Department reported 48 medical consultations for venomous animal accidents during July. Scorpions were the primary cause, accounting for 29 cases, or approximately 60.42% of incidents involving local residents. The highest concentration of cases occurred in the Grande Morada da Serra and Ribeirão da Ponte regions, with occurrences also noted in several other neighborhoods across 24 districts. Despite these figures, health officials noted a significant decrease in weekly averages compared to 2025.
Simultaneously, the Hospital Municipal de Cuiabá (HMC) has expanded its use of minimally invasive videolaparoscopy. In the last two months, the facility has performed 88 such procedures, primarily for appendicitis and gallbladder issues. This surgical advancement, supported by the Empresa Cuiabana de Saúde Pública (ECSP), aims to reduce recovery times, minimize pain, and decrease hospital stays for patients in both emergency and elective care.
