Cuiabá settles debt with Petit to lift FIFA transfer ban

Cuiabá has fully settled a debt of approximately R$ 5.5 million owed to former Portuguese coach Petit and his technical staff. This payment, funded through the club's own resources and shareholder efforts, has lifted a FIFA-imposed transfer ban, allowing the club to once again register new players.

The club noted that this disbursement will severely impact its cash flow throughout 2026. Petit previously managed the team between May and August 2024, resigning following a heavy defeat against Palmeiras.

Following the settlement, Cuiabá president Cristiano Dresch has called for greater efficiency from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and its National Dispute Resolution Chamber (CNRD). The club is currently awaiting the collection of approximately R$ 45 million owed to them by other Brazilian clubs through completed negotiations. Dresch argued that the delay in collecting these funds creates a financial imbalance, as clubs that fulfill their obligations must bear the consequences of others' delays.
