Cuitláhuac faces health risks from illegal dumping and poor waste collection
In Cuitláhuac, deficient waste collection services have led to the proliferation of illegal dumpsites, creating significant environmental and public health risks. Residents report that public cleaning trucks can take up to eight days to collect refuse, causing waste to accumulate on streets, roads, and vacant lots.
These clandestine sites have become breeding grounds for pests, including flies and rodents. Of particular concern is the accumulation of used tires, which retain rainwater and serve as ideal habitats for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the vector for dengue, Zika, and chikungunya. Additionally, the burning of trash in areas such as Mata Larga is contributing to atmospheric pollution. Local citizens have called upon Municipal President Angélica Peña Martínez to implement immediate actions to curb illegal dumping and improve sanitation services.
