Culiacán authorities urge waste disposal changes amid flooding and high wave risks

In Culiacán, Sinaloa, local authorities are intensifying preventive measures to mitigate flood risks during the rainy season. Jesús Bill Mendoza Ontiveros, Director of Civil Protection, has urged citizens to stop disposing of household waste, such as furniture and appliances, into canals and drains to prevent water level rises. The municipality has provided a WhatsApp contact for residents to request assistance with large item disposal.

To prepare for potential emergencies, the Culiacán City Council has activated 25 temporary shelters and deployed over 300 security and emergency response personnel. Coordination between different levels of government remains a priority for family safety.

Additionally, Sinaloa Governor Graciela Domínguez Nava reported that 28 fishing communities have been affected by high waves and swells. In response, authorities have deployed immediate support and established permanent monitoring to manage the impact of these maritime conditions.
