Mazatlán musician Darcy Zatarin killed in armed attack
On the early morning of July 23, 2026, an armed assault occurred in the Valles del Ejido neighborhood of Mazatlán, Sinaloa. Gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on a small gathering, killing three people, including local musician and producer Darcy Zatarin (also reported as Darcy Zatarain). Zatarin, 37, was wounded and taken to a hospital where he later died. Two other victims also died at the scene.
Authorities from the municipal police, the army and the state’s special operations unit secured the area, collected shell casings and recovered several firearms, including three AK‑47 assault rifles, hundreds of cartridges and dozens of magazines. Colleagues in the regional Mexican music scene, such as singer Roberto Junior, expressed condolences on social media, describing Zatarin as a key figure in their work.
