Culiacán school threat triggers security deployment and parent protests

An intimidating threat targeting the Colegio Inglés de Durango in Culiacán, Sinaloa, has caused significant alarm among families and students. During the early hours of Monday, August 31, unidentified individuals in a vehicle left a funeral wreath at the school entrance and wrote the threatening message, “Aquí va a tronar,” on a perimeter wall.

While classes resumed, attendance was lower than usual due to widespread fear. Parents and family members, including a local district judge, have criticized the school and authorities for a perceived delayed response and a lack of immediate preventive inspections. Protesters recently gathered at the campus dressed in white to demand increased security, transparency regarding the investigation, and permanent surveillance.

The Sinaloa State Public Security Secretariat has responded by implementing permanent surveillance at the Colegio Inglés de Durango and deploying preventive security measures at various educational institutions across the state to ensure safety during the return to classes.
