Pacific Ocean faces Super Niño and triple tropical storm threat

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has issued a global alert regarding the intensification of the Super Niño phenomenon, which is expected to persist until at least February 2027. This event is driven by exceptionally warm sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific, which have risen by up to 2.6 °C. Experts warn that this phenomenon could cause significant disruptions to global weather patterns, including severe droughts in Central America, monsoon deficits in India, and torrential rains in other regions, potentially destabilizing the global food economy.

Simultaneously, the Pacific Ocean is experiencing an atypical concentration of powerful tropical systems. The National Hurricane Center reports that Hurricane Lowell has reached Category 5 status, while Hurricane Karina is a Category 4 storm located east of Hawaii. Additionally, Storm Marie is intensifying southwest of the Baja California peninsula. While the cores of these storms are projected to remain offshore, their swells and heavy waves pose significant risks to maritime navigation and coastal areas in Mexico and Hawaii.
