Cultura de Forquilla association launched to preserve Catalan cuisine

The Cultura de Forquilla, a new Catalan Fork Breakfast Association, was presented in Lleida to protect and promote traditional Catalan culinary heritage. The organization, which began operations on October 5 and currently has 70 members, aims to create an ecosystem involving restaurateurs, farmers, ranchers, artisans, and enthusiasts.

Association president Albert Molins emphasized the urgency of the mission, stating, “If we do not want our cuisine to die, we need people to cook it and consume it.” The group seeks to prevent traditional cooking from becoming a passing trend by attracting younger generations and tourists, potentially through breakfast buffets in hotels that highlight traditional dishes.

Key objectives include building a network between restaurants and the primary sector, such as fishermen and producers, and supporting artisanal trades. Additionally, the association aims to facilitate generational turnover in historic restaurants to prevent them from closing or becoming franchises, while also promoting social initiatives through its “Forquilla Solidària” program.
