Cultura Nova concludes 35th international performing arts festival

The 35th edition of the Cultura Nova international performing arts festival has concluded in Parkstad Limburg. Running from August 28 to September 6, 2026, the jubilee event featured over 250 performances and activities across theaters, squares, and streets.

The festival opened with the production ‘From Black to Rainbow’ by the French company Plasticiens Volants, featuring parades through four neighborhoods in Heerlen. The event introduced YUNI, a new character designed to symbolize connection and encounter, who traveled through Heerlen, Brunssum, and Kerkrade.

Key highlights included the Dutch premiere of ‘Entre Chiens et Louves’ by Cirque Le Roux and the outdoor performance ‘Zloty’ by the Spanish company Cia. Pau Palaus. Other notable productions included ‘HYPERSENSES’ by Laika and Zefiro Torna, which utilized sensory elements such as smell, taste, and touch.
