Cultural and commemorative events scheduled in Cologne and Leipzig
Various cultural and commemorative events are scheduled across German cities. In Cologne, an ecumenical service and soirée titled ‘Zum Frieden verpflichtet – Köln, lass uns reden’ will take place on September 25. The program includes a dialogue sermon featuring Katrin Göring-Eckardt and city official Dörte Diemert, followed by a panel discussion with Serap Güler and Rolly Brings regarding social cohesion and peace.
Leipzig will host several events in September and October. The city is planning commemorations for the anniversary of the October 9, 1989, demonstrations, including a peace prayer at the Nikolaikirche and a speech on democracy by political scientist Cathryn Clüver Ashbrook. The ‘Lichtfest Leipzig’ will also feature a light path through the city center.
Additionally, the Leipzig Seed Library will be presented on September 11 at the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum. This project, a collaboration between local experts and the city, aims to preserve regional plant varieties by allowing citizens to borrow seeds from municipal libraries, provided a portion of the harvested seeds is returned.
