Cultural and conservation events held in the Amazon region

A dance performance inspired by the animated film ‘Rio’ is scheduled for November 25, 2026, at the Theatro da Paz in Belém. The production follows the story of Blu, a blue macaw, and features dancers portraying characters and scenes related to Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian carnival, and nature.

In the Amazonas region, the ‘Festival das Ariranhas’ (Giant Otter Festival) was held in Palmari to celebrate World Otter Day. Organized by researcher Kirpal Rodriguez, the event included community activities such as theater, football, and a vocalization contest involving the Matis indigenous people. The festival served as a foundation for a master's degree project at the University of São Paulo (USP), which aims to involve local fishermen in monitoring giant otters through vocalization recordings to better manage human-animal conflicts, such as fishing net damage.
