Cultural and linguistic celebrations held in Vranje and Vršac

Various cultural and linguistic events are being held in Serbia to celebrate linguistic diversity. In Vranje, the Narodni univerzitet has announced a competition for the best story in a foreign language for primary school students. To mark the European Day of Languages, students can submit original handwritten works in English, French, or Russian across three age categories. Submissions must be completed by September 18, 2026, with results to be announced on September 25.

In Vršac, the 5th edition of the Romanian Language Day, themed ‘Language Connects Us,’ was held at the Millennium Center. Organized by the ‘Slobodni Rumuni Srbije’ association in collaboration with the Vršac Cultural Center and the Romanian Consulate, the event featured poetry, music, and traditional performances. The program included participants from local schools and guests from Romania, including a fanfare from Merčina, to celebrate the identity and culture of the Romanian minority.
