Cultural and scientific botanical initiatives launched in Portugal

Parques de Sintra is introducing a new collection of botanical illustrations inspired by the species cultivated in the Queluz National Palace Botanical Garden during the 18th century. The project utilizes a historical 1789 plant list compiled by Manuel de Moraes Soares, physician to Queen Maria I, to bridge the gap between historical scientific study and contemporary art.

In Lisbon, the Pavilhão do Conhecimento has launched an interactive exhibition titled ‘FLORESTA: Uma Experiência de Raiz’. Running until September 2027, the exhibit explores Portuguese forests through 24 modules and four thematic areas. It aims to educate visitors on forest ecosystems, biodiversity, and the practical applications of forest resources, such as cork, in daily life.
