Cultural and social movements launch heritage and decolonization initiatives

In Brazil, the Coletivo Nosso Kilombo has launched the third edition of its project, ‘LEVANTA POVO! Sambas, Artesanias e Resistências’. The initiative begins in Itapuã with a traditional rice pudding sharing ceremony, followed by various cultural activities through December. Upcoming events include ‘Rodas de Fuxicaria’ for craft-making and knowledge sharing, a heritage walk designed for deaf individuals to explore local history, and a concluding parade in December.

In Portugal, the Konferénsia Panafrikanu di Lisboa has organized the III Marxa Cabral in Lisbon, scheduled for September 12. Under the theme ‘In Defense of the Land and Life: Recognize, Repair, Decolonize’, the march brings together various Black movements and social organizations. The event draws inspiration from the political and scientific thought of Amílcar Cabral, linking the fight against racism and colonialism to ecological crises and land rights.
