Cultural dance and theatre productions announced in Spain and Cuba
The performing arts scene sees new developments in Spain and Cuba. In Gijón, the companies Proyecto Alicia and Meraki Cía. are preparing the premiere of ‘El lugar de lo inservible’ at the Teatro Jovellanos on October 18. Part of the Danza Xixón festival, the production combines theatre, dance, and music to explore themes of environmental pollution and emotional disconnection through the metaphor of discarded objects. This collaboration between the Mexican company Proyecto Alicia and the Asturian Meraki Cía. was developed during a residency at the Teatro de la Laboral.
In Havana, the Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba company will perform a gala at the Teatro Martí on October 12 to celebrate the Spanish National Day. Organized by the Spanish Embassy in Cuba and supported by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the event features excerpts from productions such as ‘Fuerza y Compás’ and ‘Habana Fénix’. The performance aims to highlight the cultural intersection between Spanish and Cuban traditions, featuring live music and dancers from various generations of the company.
