Cultural developments in Dominican Republic and Guatemala

The performing arts and media sectors in the Dominican Republic and Guatemala are seeing notable developments. In the Dominican Republic, the television program ‘Somos Así y Así Somos’, produced by Cornelia Margarita Torres, has been recognized for creating a significant audiovisual archive of national history. Much of its investigative content, including a 25-part series on Francisco Alberto Caamaño, is preserved in the Archivo General de la Nación.

Simultaneously, the Dominican musical theater scene is experiencing growth in both production quality and audience demand. Producers note that while post-pandemic audiences have higher expectations based on international standards, the sector still faces challenges in establishing itself as a sustainable cultural industry.

In Guatemala, the musical ‘Supera a tu ex en 48 horas’ is scheduled to perform at Teatro Lux in September. Produced by Escenarte, the production explores themes of emotional dependency and relationships through music and humor.
