Brač wildfire localized after nine days of fighting
A major wildfire on the island of Brač has been localized after nine days of intense fighting. The blaze destroyed approximately 5,000 hectares of pine forest, maquis, and low vegetation, affecting areas between Bobovište and Ložišća, extending to Milna. The fire caused the evacuation of tourists and residents, damaged glamping houses at the Gava resort, and disrupted local traffic. Firefighters from across Croatia, supported by aerial assets including Air Tractors, worked to contain the flames despite challenging winds.
Following the containment, volunteer firefighters from the Selca Fire Department (DVD Selca) returned to their homes. Members of the organization expressed gratitude to their families and the community for support during the exhausting nine-day operation, which involved 19 different members of the association.
In cultural news, the documentary film ‘Tova’, directed by Damir Jelić, is set for its Montenegrin premiere at the 4th Budva Sports & Arts Film Festival. The film chronicles the life of Antun Tova Stipančić, a world champion table tennis player.
