Italy tourism trends show growth in cultural events and seasonal demand

Italy's tourism sector is seeing significant shifts in consumer behavior and legal frameworks. Data from the Unioncamere-Isnart Observatory indicates that cultural and folkloric events are becoming major economic drivers. In 2025, approximately 10% of tourists chose destinations specifically to attend events, spending an average of 107 euros per day, which exceeds the national average of 96 euros. This demographic, particularly 'Baby Boomers', shows even higher daily spending.

In the Liguria and Savona regions, the 2026 summer season concluded with positive results, including a 10% increase in international visitors, primarily from France and Northern Europe. Due to this growth, Confcommercio Savona is advocating for a structural extension of the beach season beyond the traditional mid-September cutoff to better accommodate demand.

On the legal front, a recent ruling by the Consiglio di Stato has provided hope to beach concession operators regarding the Bolkestein directive. The court confirmed the legitimacy of certain concessions extended to 2033, provided they were published in the official registry, potentially offering a pathway for further legal challenges against the mandatory auctioning of coastal sites.
