Schwalmtal merges fire departments to save costs

The municipality of Schwalmtal has merged its local fire departments from the districts of Hopfgarten and Ober-/Unter-Sorg into a single unit named ‘Schwalmtal Mitte’.

The Hessian state government is supporting this merger through a 30,000 euro grant as part of an agreement to promote inter-municipal cooperation. This restructuring is expected to result in annual savings of more than 11,000 euros for the municipality.

In addition to the economic benefits, officials noted that the merger aims to ensure the future viability and security of fire protection services in the rural region.
